Membership & Charges

Student & Fellow Membership

Graduate students or any category of Fellow, are automatically members of the Common Room. 

Staff Membership

At the successful completion of the probation period, employees of Wolfson College will be eligible to apply for membership of the Common Room for the duration of their appointment.

Associate Membership

Partners and spouses can apply to become associate members of the Common Room. Membership entitles them to a college swipe-card that they can use to access the laundry and library and charge items to their college account (also known as battels). It also allows them to join college clubs and societies and dine in the Hall. Please complete the Membership of Common Room & Visiting Scholar Form below, selecting the type 'Associate MCR' from the dropdown menu.  

If associate applicants do not have an existing university card, they will need to complete a University Card Application form (found at the bottom of the page).  Completed forms should be returned to the academic.office@wolfson.usavelo.com, if the applicant is an associate of a student, or to the presidents.office@wolfson.usavelo.com if an associate of a Fellow.

Research Membership

This scheme invites applications from researchers who are employed by the University of Oxford and are engaged in substantial research, for instance, those at post-doctoral or more senior levels without a college attachment. Applications are considered twice each term. Upcoming deadlines are as set out below. All proposals must include a supporting statement from the applicant's Head of Department.  Please see application form and rules and details of membership below.   When completing the application form, please ensure that you attach all the requisite documents, including your reference, before submitting.  Applications are also considered at Summer GPC 

Common Room Membership

The following two categories are available to past members of Wolfson College, Oxford only.

Student Alumni MCR

Former students of the College are eligible to apply for this membership if they have successfully completed a qualification or were fully enrolled for a minimum of two continuous years.

Fellow Alumni MCR

Fellows should apply for this membership upon two consecutive years in a Fellowship role.  Please see application form below for further particulars.

Ordinary Membership of Common Room

Membership of Common Room should bring some benefit to the life of the College and is normally offered only to people with permanent posts or occupations in or near Oxford (internal or external to the University). Candidates may live in Oxford or elsewhere. Applicants for Ordinary Membership of Common Room will need to provide the details of a Proposer and Seconder. Both of these individuals must be members of Wolfson, and at least one of these individuals must be a Wolfson Governing Body Fellow.  Please see application form below for further particulars.

Visiting Scholars Membership

This membership covers the application for Visiting Scholars and is only applicable during their time at the College. Prospective visitors may come for any length of time from a few weeks to two years. There is a termly charge of £250.00 plus £39.00 for membership of common room.

Application Process

Visiting Scholars are elected by the Fellowships and Membership Committee twice each term (weeks ‘0' and ‘5' in the University Term). Candidates must be proposed and seconded by two current College members, one of whom should be a Governing Body Fellow who knows the candidate personally or is familiar with their academic work. Please see the application form below for further particulars. When completing the application form, please ensure that you attach all the requisite documents, including your CV, statement of proposed research and two references, before submitting.

Completed applications should be received by the closing dates below. 

Graduate students are not eligible and self-proposals are not accepted for this membership.

Membership Charges
All members (other than those designated as ‘Honorary') are required to contribute to the cost of maintaining College facilities, and this is reflected in the Common Room membership charges.
